ERICKSONIAN HYPNOTHERAPY The first part of the world 'hypnotherapy,' 'hypnos,' in ancient Greek means sleep - a natural healing state, in which our subconscious heals the stress accumulated during our daily activities. While hypnotherapy is a healing process that can take place during a professionally or artificially induced sleep. It is done in order to identify and induce the healing of otherwise hidden, deep subconscious blockages. Ericksonian hypnotherapy, based on the highly successful practice of the psychotherapist and hypnotherapist Milton Erickson, does not require an artificial sleep induction to achieve the same results. He was using the therapeutic metaphor and everything about the client as valuable means to induce the deeply healing and satisfying change during a normal conversation and interaction. When we attempt to influence someone verbally or by body language, we naturally engage in something akin to this modality. The difference is that Ericksonian hypnotherapy is aimed specifically at inducing the deep healing changes required by the client rather than trying to change his/her mind so as to adopt another person's point of view. Good public speakers, and motivational speakers in particular, use in their presentation elements of this modality or its derivative, the Neuro-Linguistic Programming. There’s only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that’s your own self. Aldous Huxley (1894-1963), English Writer Compatibility Ericksonian Hypnotherapy is compatible with all other forms of healing - medical, traditional, complementary and self-healing. When health is absent, wisdom can not reveal itself, strength cannot be exerted, wealth is useless, and reason is powerless.
